Hot rodding the way it used to be is alive and well. This hobby grew out of the type of grassroots events that are reappearing all over the country. Denise Sheldon, friend of R&C, sent us the news and a few shots from the 2004 HAMB Drags held at MoKan Dragway in Joplin, Missouri. The event was organized by Marcy and Ryan Cochran, and publicized via Ryan's Jalopy Journal web site and HAMB message board.

In addition to the drag racing, a Route 66 cruise pounded through three states in three hours (stopping at the Starbird Museum in Oklahoma), and a garage crawl toured numerous shops before ending with a huge barbecue. Back at the strip, approximately 70 truly traditional rods and customs showed up to race from mid-afternoon until almost midnight. Like we said, alive and well.
