The Sonic Wind I high-speed sled was parked out front of the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo. This is the sled that was used in record-breaking speed tests in NASA's deceleration project. The sled reached 632 mph, decelerating to zero in a second and a quarter (1 1/4 sec) with a force of more than 40 g's. This was all done with a willing participant strapped in the seat.
