The Eagle One Excellent Choice... The Eagle One Excellent Choice Award was given to Bob Zapke's clean '49 Ford. The powertrain combination is a 302 with a C4 trans. The split bench is finished in white vinyl. Other custom elements include the frenched headlights, wide whites, and Cadillac wheel covers. Kenny Fransen's '49 Chevy... Kenny Fransen's '49 Chevy displays a combination of old and new styles. Muscle comes from a 502 Ram Jet, with a TH400, and Winters quick-change. Kenny frenched the headlights and got rid of much of the chrome trim. He added Cadillac seats, a custom dash, air conditioning, and a GPS system. A little Rhinebeck rain brought... A little Rhinebeck rain brought out the Ferrari Red on Wayne and Barb Richards' '50 Olds custom--chopped 3 1/2 inches in back and 4 1/2 up front. Frenched headlights, shaved handles, wide whites, and side pipes complete the whole look. The engine is a 403 Oldsmobile. Joe Alexander says the inspiration... Joe Alexander says the inspiration for his '50 Chevy came from custom builder Larry Watson, and lowriders. In addition to scallops and panel painting on the roof, Joe's ride features some Dutch-like 'striping on the nose and decklid, and green metalflake on the dash and spider caps. A '57 Chevy six-cylinder mill and Saginaw four-speed make this custom run. Back at Fort Hot Rod, this... Back at Fort Hot Rod, this channeled '31 A roadster is owned by Brian Dolin, husband of Kimberly (who owns the scalloped '29). Brian describes it as an old New England hot rod. It runs a 327 and TH400, and rolls on cheater slicks. Inside, a Pierce Arrow dash insert is filled up with Stewart-Warner instruments. Bill Towers turned a '55 Ford... Bill Towers turned a '55 Ford post car into a sweet East Coast mild custom with the addition of a custom grille, '55 Pontiac side chrome, '59 Cadillac ambulance taillights, and lots of baby blue paint. Bill stuffed an Isky cam into the 312 Y-block and threw a Borg-Warner T10 behind it. The car earned the Killer Kustom Award. This '51 Merc is still a work... This '51 Merc is still a work in progress. Owner Skip Mucci found it in Florida earlier this year, in close to this condition. He contributed the spots and some cool pinstriping. The taillights are Packard. The interior is next on the agenda, as well as some chrome mirrors. Carl Libucha didn't overlook... Carl Libucha didn't overlook a single detail on his outstanding T, packed with a six-carbed 283 and three-speed. The motorcycle-style fenders, undropped and drilled I-beam axle on a suicide perch, tube shocks, front and rear split wishbones, and miles of pinstriping all look great. It looks peaceful sitting... It looks peaceful sitting here on the grass, but Jake Roberts' '39 sedan has gone faster than 98 mph in the quarter at the Maxton Monster Mile. The Flathead is a bored and stroked '53 Merc with Baron heads and reverse-mounted dual 94s. Boogie Woogie is the nickname... Boogie Woogie is the nickname of Doug Anderson's cream and red scalloped '31 five-window coupe. The channeled Model A was originally built as a race car. The small-block is a '66 small-journal 327 with triple pots. Trans is a reverse-shifted Turbo 350. A little skin o' the leopard... A little skin o' the leopard on the dash of Sheryl Girven's suede and scalloped '62 Chrysler 300 seems to go along with the overall personality of the custom. We never found out what Sheryl's got hidden under the hood. Maybe it's the 413. Maybe it's a Hemi.
