Welcome back! We're still out here in Lincoln, where the action at the Rod & Custom Americruise is heating up. The streets and grassy areas of State Fair Park are packed with rods and customs from all over the United States. We've been wearing out our sneakers trying to see all of them. It's tough to do when we've got so many other activities competing for our attention. The Autocross Course and the Go & Whoa! fun is drawing a large number of participants and an even bigger number of spectators watching the cars go through the courses. Cones are flying, tires are squealing, and everybody's having a blast!

We tore ourselves away from all that activity to spend some time in the vendor area. O'Reilly Auto Parts is big in this part of the country and stepped up to help us host this big shindig. In addition to their booth, the line-up in the vendor area included Air Ride, Flowmaster, Eagle One, and many others. International Collector Auction came out to host a classic car auction. How many of the cars bought here today will be finished in time for Americruise 2007 next summer?

R&C editors made some tough choices and selected the five hot rods and five custom cars that are the finalists in the Rod of the Year and Custom of the Year. Yesterday's first round of judging involved exterior, interior, engine compartment, undercarriage quality, plus overall fit and finish excellence. Today the judging continued, with a 10-car cruise through the city of Lincoln and a trip nearby Speedy Bills to determine driveabilty. The rest of the competition took place back at the fairgrounds, where we ran the finalists through the Autocross Course in addition to acceleration and braking testing. We'll figure out the winners today, but we're not revealing who they are until tomorrow. Talk to you then.
