Forty Ford Day is held the last weekend of June in La Palma Park in Anaheim, California. This year's 33rd annual event was once again organized and hosted by the venerable Forties Limited car club of Southern California with portions of the event proceeds going to support C.H.O.C. (Children's Hospital of Orange County) and the Parkinsons Resource Organization. Though the club is limited to 1939 DeLuxe and 1940 Standard & DeLuxe model early Ford V-8 vehicles, the show is open to vehicles of all makes built on or before 1968. This made for a very large turnout at this year's event, which I estimate was close to 150-plus entries, appearing to be the largest participant turnout in recent memory (I guess in today's economy folks are choosing to stay closer to home and do simpler things like enjoy a local car show). There were, however, a few out-of-state entries from southwest and northwest states, including Nevada, Arizona, and even Oregon participating in this year's show.
The event activities included a 50/50 cash raffle & prize raffle, a bake sale and bar-b-q, and free event Ts to participants (also available for sale to spectators), all admistered and organized by the Forties Limited club members. A DJ provide music and PA service during the event and NSRA safety inspectors were on hand to check out enthusiasts' vehicles for proper mechanical safety, signing off on them if they passed or offering suggestions as to what changes were needed to improve mechanical safety. All in all, as usual, this was a great event for 1940 Ford purists--or automotive enthusiasts.
