Once again, summer capped off in sunny Southern California—Long Beach Arena, to be exact—with the second re-installment of the indoor show, originally made famous by the Renegades Car Club, The Long Beach Motorama.
Along with the expected myriad of customs new and old, including the recipient of the 2011 America’s Kustom D’Elegance Award, the Don Lowe–built “Futurama” ’40 Ford, this year’s Motorama featured an array of distinguished hot rods, show cars, and most notably, vintage race cars. Centering off the arena’s Avenue of Dreams, custom car feature were highlight attractions such as the Lions Drag Strip quarter-mile tribute, Barris Kustoms and Ed Roth’s Crazy Painters dioramas, and the ever-growing Wall of Legends display. Past the exterior of the arena walls, hot rods and customs were sprawled across the acres of grass, adding an “outdoor” element to an otherwise traditional indoor show.
But as promotional show verbiage states, “You’ve got to be here to experience it”. If you weren’t, here’s a little sampling of the 2011 Motorama.
