Held at Barona Dragstrip on the Barona Reservation just east of San Diego, this was the ninth year that The Lifters Car Club has hosted the King of Clubs event. To say it just gets better each year would be cliché, if it weren't so true! The track's in a great location, the drive there and back is cool (depending on your route, it takes in much of the same scenery we enjoyed on the Hot Rod Roundabout Reliability Run a few months ago), the atmosphere is friendly, and camping is permitted. We've hauled our trusty canvas accommodation to this event in the past and have been in the minority, but this year all the good spots were gone by Friday night!

While there's action on the track on Friday, the event itself doesn't start until Saturday, but then it's non-stop until way after dark, with the chance to put your car up the strip, actual organized classes later in the afternoon for club to race against club (hence the King of Clubs moniker), vendors, oddball trophies, bands, and burlesque girls. Those last two are outside under the stars alongside the track, by the way. The Lifters put on a great event that's as good as it sounds, and it should be. So get to the 10th in 2014 if you can!
