To build a Deuce woodie this nice, it would help if you were a master woodworker or maybe a former Ford engineer. As it turns out, Dave Owen, the builder and previous owner of Jim Rollano's knockout wagon can claim both of those credentials. According to Jim, the maple and birch woodwork alone was a 3,000-hour task for Owen, who modified the bodylines by shortening the rear portion and chopping the top. The tilted windshield adds a little rake to the boxy body style. Front and rear doors were shaved of handles and mounted suicide style. The Mercedes cloth top was provided by Juliano's Hot Rod Parts & Interior Products. Steel front and rear fenders, three-piece Rootlieb hood, and Dan Fink grille insert add to the elegance of the body, painted '80 Ford Yellow by Owen. Bill Busco built the reproduction frame, adding a Mustang II front suspension with Carrera shocks and coilovers. The Ford 351 mill is topped with an Edelbrock manifold and single Holley. On the inside, a '34 dash was added, displaying VDO gauges. Bob Juliano wrapped the Volvo buckets in beige leather. Best news of all: A perfect appearance doesn't prevent Jim from putting plenty of miles on his mouth-watering woodie.
