Sponsor:The first Young Guns column appeared in Rod & Custom exactly one year ago, based on the idea that national recognition and gift certificates from major aftermarket sponsors could help spur young people into building better and cooler hot rods as the hobby progresses into the 21st century. So far we think it's working. This month's winner truly deserves his prize for a bevy of reasons. First and foremost, Jeff Turk sent in the most eye-catching YG entry we've received so far. The envelope was flamed with spray cans to match his brightly colored chopped '31 five-window (we saved the envelope). Once we dug into the contents, we discovered that Jeff apparently flames everything he can get his hands on, including his newborn son's stroller, his garage door, and even the box he put his wife's wedding ring in when he proposed. We should also mention that he proposed IN his rod at the Detroit Autorama. This guy is hardcore; so is his coupe, which is packing a 4-inch dropped axle, a 4-inch chopped and filled roof, paint and body by his dad Larry and uncle Chris, a radical big-block Chevy with zoomies, and lots of handmade parts inside and out. Unfortunately, the 30 year old (he just barely made it into Young Guns!) suffered some bad luck recently when he broke a motor mount and lunched his engine on a rough Michigan road. We know how hard it can be to come up with dough while starting a new family, so perhaps a $400 gift certificate redeemable at No Limit Engineering will help repair the damage. Good luck, Jeff.
