The great thing about young rodders is that they're not hung up on what a rod or custom is "supposed" to be. Cory Taulbert is a good example. His '30 Chevy is a car that many veteran rodders would bypass simply because it's not a Ford.

Cory has owned his sedan for eight years, wrenched on it for three, and performed most of the work himself. He boxed the frame, built an X-member, installed a Progressive IFS with ShockWaves, and hung an 8-inch rearend using a four-link from Air Ride Technologies. Then he dropped in a 454/700-R4 combo equipped with goodies from Comp Cams and Edelbrock.

Outside, the sedan's top is chopped (one of the few things Cory didn't do), the rear fenders are widened, and the driprails are molded in. The cockpit is currently unfinished but already has Dakota Digital gauges and a Lokar shifter in a custom console. Cory's dad sprayed the red paint on the frame and black sealer on the body.

"This car is not and will never be a trailer queen," Cory says. "It was built to be driven." As Young Gun of the Month, Cory gets a $400 gift certificate from Zoops Products, where he can score aluminum goodies that'll help that big-block look awesome as it blasts down the highway.
