Stuffing big American V-8 power into English bodies was a popular trick back in the '60s, and had great results. Some early roadsters tried to copy that "sports car feel." Not this monster-nothing here but brute force.
Inspiration for this little diddy comes from Norm Cowdrey's awesome giant killer way back in the '60s. Using the skin of an early Austin-Healey, mid-'50s to 1966 vintage, let's start with a complete, fresh square-tube chassis full of Swiss cheese holes. Up front, the venerable Chevy 327 small-block gets stuffed with all kinds of go-fast goodies. Add a polished straight axle and Flaming River steering, all tied into some retro spindle-mount front rims, and throw in a Grand National rear suspension setup out back. How about some big rear meats with maybe some early Ansens for lift-off?
Crowning our Chevy engine is a nice 6-71 huffer and an injected Hilborn unit. To make a shift, it's a full Tremec or a Powerhouse-equipped Richmond. Other treats in back include a custom-spun aluminum driveshaft hooked to a magnesium Halibrand Champ QC, and maybe Baer or Willwood stoppers all the way 'round ('cause you're gonna need them). Bend up some custom exhaust tubes for that semi weed burner effect, and chrome liberally. Paint and color could range from a commercial color to a radical flame or scallop job. Just how far can your imagination carry you? I would favor a candy color (red-oh yeah!) with a silver inseam ... like a stock Healey.
It may not be the traditional hot rod in a sense, but we're chasing our R&C heritage and thinking outside of the box on this one-or at the very least in a corner! And this dream car would certainly stump and stomp the locals ... just like Normy did back in the day.
