Rusty BurfordFort Worth, TX '30 Ford Model A Roadster & '31 Ford Model A CoupeAnother rodder who just can't get enough of the open highway is Rusty Burford who has traveled all the way to Paso Robles, California, and to Bowling Green, Kentucky, stacking up more than 15,000 miles along the way in the last two years. Rusty got his start with his '31 Model A coupe he found locally as a true '50s survivor. He completely went through the car, making all the components reliable and safe with an early 283 topped by a Tri-power followed by a Muncie four-speed and a '57 Chevy rearend. The car proved to be a lot of fun but was sold and Rusty picked up his new ride, a '30 Model A roadster, as a body in Missouri. The frame was built in the shop behind his house and into it went a '62 Buick 401ci Nailhead topped by a Tri-power and backed by a Muncie four-speed and a 9-inch rearend. Rusty recycled some old hot rod parts like an original Mor-Drop axle and a pair of split '34 Ford wishbones and also hand-fabricated many parts himself. Still a work in progress, Rusty enjoys cruising in his ride while he makes further refinements.
Brian GannonFloral Park, NY'62 RamblerBrian Gannon has put together one very beautiful and equally innovative ride with his '62 Rambler wagon, built at his shop, Grandma's Garage, in Queens, New York. Highlights of this beauty include a fuel-injected Corvette LT1 engine, 700-R4 overdrive trans, and 9-inch Ford rearend, all connected to a custom 2x3-inch frame. Tons of custom bodywork, both inside and out, as well as underneath, was completed before the GM Ivy Green pant was sprayed. Inside, a '32 Ford dash and a triple-tone interior made up of pleather, fake ostrich, and genuine suede makes things pop. Outside, the mono theme gets a solid dash of flash from a set of 17-inch PS Engineering kidney bean wheels.
Steve TsangEdmonton, Alberta, Canada'30 Ford Model A SedanSteve Tsang acquired his '30 Model A sedan in a trade for his '58 Ford Custom 300 sedan. Sean Manness originally built the car in Selkirk, Manitoba, using and original Canadian-built body. It was set up as a gas-sipping daily driver with a four-cylinder engine and five-speed transmission from a 1990 Ford Mustang that Steve loves. Originally wearing fenders when Steve first took over ownership, the sedan has slowly been transformed into his own vision of a perfect hot rod as a '50s-styled highboy. Vitals include a '57 F-100 steering box, '50 Pontiac taillights, green and white upholstery, '65 Chrysler 300 steering wheel, 15x4 Dodge space-saver spare rims up front with 5.60x15 Firestone wide whites, 15x5 '55 Ford rims on the rear mounted up with a pair of Hurst pie-crust slicks, repop Fiesta hubcaps, and a Vintage Air heater because, Steve says, it does indeed get very cold up in Canada during the winter and he does drive the car all year round.
