There are some cars that simply don't need much to carry off a perfect mild-custom attitude, and the '60 Impala is one such car. With crisper lines than its '59 predecessor, the two-door hardtop is a natural, especially once the suspension has been dropped. Buddy Burness thought so too, treating his '60 to a healthy suspension drop, spots and lakes pipes, a tube grille, and the addition of '59 Bonneville taillights and '59 Impala one-piece bumpers. With a custom arrow motif on the rear quarters, plenty of chrome adorning the three-on-the-tree-equipped 348, and white roll 'n' pleat upholstery matching the whitewall tires, Buddy's set to continue collecting awards wherever the Chevy is shown.
Tom MoserPortland, Oregon1957 Ford Ranch Wagon
This '57 wagon has been in Tom Moser's family almost since new-his grandfather Ferd bought it in 1958 when it had a mere 7,000 miles on the odometer. Tom remembers the many trips he took with his grandparents in the car, with its inline-six and three-speed, and no radio either. Tom bought the car in 1987; Ferd felt bad that the block was cracked, but Tom told him not to worry about it.
Months later, out of the blue over lunch, his grandfather said, "Now, Tom, that car don't need no V-8!'
Rebuilt with a six, Tom took Ferd for a ride in the wagon on his 99th birthday. "After he passed, we installed a '69 351W. It now has an AOD with 3.55 gears, a '59 auto column, and rack-and-pinion steering. Disc brakes are next."
