DRIVETRAIN: The '46 Ford flathead is bored and fitted with an offset-ground (1/8-inch) Merc crank to achieve 284 ci. Robby assembled the engine himself using Egge pistons, an Isky cam, Johnson adjustable lifters, and Offy heads. Fuel delivery comes from a duo of Stromberg 97s on an Offy intake, breathing through Edmunds air cleaners. A Mallory dual-point distributor lights the fire, while Sanderson headers send the spent mixture through Flowmaster mufflers and a Chris Orman-built exhaust. A homemade shifter provides control for the '86 Ford F-100 trans--a three-speed unit with overdrive. It's adapted to the flathead using a 1-ton Ford truck bellhousing ('49-53 vintage) and a Ranger hydraulic clutch.
