Don’t you hate crooks? Tom Severson does. He owned a show ’n’ go Harley that he took down to Los Angeles from his Antelope, California, home for a big bike show. The trip was going great right up until someone ripped his hog from the hotel parking lot. Giant bummer.

Luckily, his insurance policy was paid up and soon Tom had some capital socked away patiently waiting for that new toy to come along. It didn’t take Tom very long to realize that he really didn’t want another bike. It was time to fulfill a dream. Tom had craved hot rods since he was a kid and spent his youth driving musclecars, so naturally he began a quest for rodness.

A conversation with a stranger ended his search. He was chatting with someone somewhere and mentioned that he was looking for an old car, preferably a coupe. Turned out this gent had a friend who was in the middle of building a ’34 Chevy—he was glad to take Tom over for a looksee and an introduction. That’s when Tom met Jim Nye the hot rod guy, and sure enough, Tom fell in love—with the car, that is. After spending a couple of hours at Jim’s shop, a deal was worked out and instead of Jim building himself a car, he found himself finishing one for Tom. A few short weeks later, Tom received his Coca-Cola Red coupe, and not long after, started showing it and winning.

So far, Tom’s coupe has won class and Best of Show awards all over Northern California, has been a Goodguys Top Ten pick in P-town, and was invited to enter the Grand National Roadster Show (where we met him), the Sacramento Autorama, and the Fresno Autorama. So far, he hasn’t seen another ’34 Chevy Master at any of the shows he’s attended. Tom’s also glad that he and Jim Nye have formed a strong friendship because of this car. Ah, another happy ending in hot rod land.
