Well, this turned into a debacle of we-shoulda-known proportions. It started when we ran an announcement in the Jan. 01 issue that readers could win a Rod & Custom license plate by designing a cool kustom paint scheme for our 62 Biz. We figured wed get 30 or 40 responses, and planned to actually paint the car using one of the readers designs.
Great idearight up to the point that the car got ripped off. Then our presumed 30 or 40 responses turned into over 600 entries, with many readers sending multiple drawings. Three teachers assigned the kontest to their students, and one auto shop class sent 119 ideas! We got drawings from readers as young as 4 and as old as 72, plus lots of comments like, I hadnt sketched any cars since high school math classthis was a blast! And, judging from several colorful concepts, some of you dropped way too much acid in the 60s.
It all ended happily when the Biz was recovered, and when the R&C gang finally narrowed the mail down to these 16 concepts that we liked best. Thanks to Chris Hickman for penning the original illustration and to all who participated. Dont spend your Rod & Custom plates all in one place.
