Taking The Shirt Off His Back - Part TwoBack in the July issue we posed some questions in an attempt to see who were the hardcore readers so that we could give a few of them some T-shirts. Here are the answers.
How much does Aaron Kahan weigh? At the time it was 165 lbs(we accepted a few pounds in either direction).
How many cars does Kevin Lee own?It was 16 when that was written.
What car does Kevin drive that has been in his family since 1958?A full-fendered 1932 Ford roadster.
We had a couple of guys get all three right, so we sent them their shirts and have drawn an additional 20 from those that answered two right and 10 for those that got one correct. We even picked a couple for those that haven't been paying attention and missed all three.
In case you missed the first go-around or weren't picked out of the hat, here's another chance to get one of these shirts. A while ago I was reading on the Internet (so you know it was true) about a guy who traded his way from a paperclip to a house. We've done this sort of thing in the past, so I thought we'd have another go at it to see what we can trade a T-shirt for and then work our way up to something (maybe a Deuce three-window).
If you've got something cool but would like a T-shirt more, send me an e-mail at kevin.lee@primedia.com or mail it to Rod & Custom Trade, 774 S. Placentia Ave., Placentia, CA 92870. Keep an eye on our Web site, too, as I'll try to post something there as well.
Show Winner SavedWe love hearing about old survivors coming back to life. Rod Hardison recently told us about his successful pursuit of the show-winning '56 Nomad built by Russ Meeks in the '60s. Russ won America's Most Beautiful Roadster in 1972 with a '30 Model A with a rear-mounted Olds Toronado engine.
Another well-known Meeks custom was his Ford 427-powered, sectioned '56 Nomad. The wagon made several visits to the R&C pages, including a January '68 feature entitled "Mad Wagon." Hardison-whose father chased the car for many years, but never acquired it-recently dug up the neglected Nomad and is in the process of restoring it. A new frame has been built, and the body is getting worked into shape. We're eager to see it back in candy red, show-winning condition.
