"Hot rod kings: top traditional rod and custom builders" is a perfect companion book to "Hot Rod Roots," profiling 11 contemporary pro builders-Cole Foster, Scott Mugford, Joe and Jason Kennedy, Mercury Charlie, Sean Johnstun, Keith Tardel, Rudy Rodriguez, Mike Smith, Jimmy White, and Gary Howard-who create hot rods and customs in the style of the early days. Author Kevin Thomson doesn't interview; instead he describes the cars, the activity, and the hot rodders in each of the shops he visits. David Perry's famous photography fills every page. Billy Gibbons wrote the foreword.
Even More Goodguys EventsThe Goodguys' 2008 calendar has a few tweaks from this past year. The Goodguys GreatAmerican nationals, previously held in the spring at Hershey Park, has been rescheduled for September 26-28 and is moving to the famous three-turn Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. The Blue Suede Cruise in norwalk, Ohio, is not a new event to rodders who have enjoyed it for six years, but Goodguys will now host the car show and vintage drag racing weekend, taking place September 5-7 at Summit Motorsports Park. Vintage drags will also be part of the program at the Goodguys nostalgia nationals, debuting at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky, October 17-19. Bowling Green is home to Holley, as well as the national Corvette Museum and the Corvette assembly plant (which offers tours). For details on all 24 Goodguys events, go to www.good-guys.com.
