Hot rodding's roots go deep into racing, and Dean Buhler's root go deep into hot rodding. Dean was one of the founding members of the Road Knights Car Club in Loveland, Colorado, a quarter century ago, but had been racing long before that. He was only 16 when he started racing, and he's competed in everything from stock cars to Jeeps.
The Road Knights recently hosted the 11th annual Goodguys Colorado Nationals, as they have since the show began 10 years ago. Previously held in Colorado Springs, the event moved to the Larimer County Fairgrounds in in their hometown of Loveland.
During this year's event, Buhler received the Pennzoil Platinum Prize, created to honors enthusiasts committed to keeping their hot rods running. Dean's winning rod is a '32 three-window highboy, nicknamed "Third Degree Burn," and built with an eye toward traditional styling and up-to-date reliability. The Deuce is a hard-driven hot rod, with more than a quarter million miles on the meter to date.
