Planet Hot Rod is a Connecticut-based manufacturer of steel '32 and '33 convertibles that opened its doors to the public on May 28. Heading up the company is Kevin Care, a well-known New England car builder and fabricator, and creator of the "Hot Chili Peppers" yellow '33 coupe that toured the country in 2006.
The company specializes in all-steel '32 and '33 turnkey cars using Speed33 and Dearborn Deuce convertible bodies, both of which are made in Detroit and feature foldaway tops and power side glass.
The event showcased Planet Hot Rod's car manufacturing line, and visitors munched on pizza while strolling through the shop to view an array of tantalizing fendered and non-fendered roadsters currently in production. All Planet Hot Rod cars are powered by one of Care's ultra-hot "trademark" engines-ranging from fuel-injected Ford mod-motors to ground-thumping big-blocks with superchargers and Weber carburetors. The "no burnouts" rule did not apply to visitors leaving the event.
Care is a master fabricator with an expertise in the fabrication of anything in polished stainless steel, from chassis and suspension components. His "special project" vehicles are made from 100 percent handmade stainless parts. Current special projects include a wild, rear-engined '48 Ford cabover truck that will tour the country with the World of Wheels shows.
Planet Hot Rod is a large stocking dealer for the Speed33 and Dearborn Deuce convertible bodies, and specializes in turnkey cars that it ships all over the world.
