I started to think about this conversion after seeing a '50 Baby Lincoln and '50 Buick parked side by side in a garage here in Finland. Both were without front sheetmetal, and as I looked at the front doors I got an idea. Why look for expensive Mercury front sheetmetal parts for your Lincoln when one solution is right here? Many consider those Lincolns ugly-especially the frontend-so why not add a little Buick to them, with some custom flavor mixed in? I'm not fully aware how much work it'll require to fit the Buick front sheetmetal to the Lincoln body-you'd probably have to narrow the Buick sheetmetal 6 to 8 inches and shorten the wheelbase to match the Lincoln. Here are two slightly different versions of the same concept, both of which have been shaved of all disturbing emblems. I frenched the headlights and moved them a little bit forward, but I kept the bumper and grille almost stock, with just bullets on the bumper guards and fastening bolts welded to the bumpers. You could add Appleton spotlights to this kind of custom, but I haven't included them.
Starting from the front, I used Firestone whitewalls (maybe 7.10s) with Cadillac Sombrero hubcaps with bullets. In the rear, '51 Mercury fender skirts and a '50 Buick bumper complete the setup. On top of all that is a really beautiful and flowing top chop. You'll notice rounded door corners, a slightly leaned forward B-post, and removed driprails and vent windows.
The profile is definitely Lincoln, which can be identified from the rear bumper and taillights (unseen from this angle). We have Lincoln's original and very clean hubcaps. I added traditional '53 Buick side trim...wait a minute...no, it's not. I created custom trim-because I can! The radius is slightly bigger than the stock Buick item. And notice the flush fender skirts. Last but not least, I removed the dogleg from the door and created full fadeaway fenders. This is a difficult task to do successfully-it's definitely not for beginners. I actually created the entire section from ahead of the front doors to the end of the rear fender. This provides some very sleek lines. These are the kind of details that make this custom stand out from the rest of the Lincolns with Buick front sheetmetal. Hah!
