Paul Dorey
Tucson, Arizona
1953 Buick Hardtop
It's like Paul sent us tickets to a kustom car show from 50 years ago. His Buick Super (which he's been working on for 23 years--mostly in the backyard) hits all the right notes of a late '50s/early '60s show custom, including the 2-inch chop, moulded rear fenders extended to fit '57 Studebaker taillights, frenched headlights, modified '56 Buick rear bumper, '56 Caddy front bumper, decked '51 Buick trunk lid, '50 Buick grille, nosed hood, '55 Buick door and quarter tops, removed portholes and handles, functional full-length side pipes, '57 Caddy hub caps with '57 Lancer spinners, '50 Merc side trim, modified '61 Chevy dash and steering wheel, and homemade center console--all on a stretched and bagged '72 Monte Carlo chassis. The engine is a Chevy 350 and paint is a Nissan blue under silver/blue pearl. "There is lots of chrome and no billet," he boasts. The "'50 Merc side trim" description is Paul's joke. Good one!
