For 2009, the Mothers Shine Award was presented to "Deucenberg," a beautiful 1932 Ford B-400 built by Alan Johnson at Johnson's Hot Rod Shop in Gadsden, AL, and owned by Doug Cooper of Oyster Bay Cove, NY. Paint on this rare convertible sedan is BASF bordeaux, interior was done by Paul Atkins Interiors and plating by John Wright Custom Chrome. Originally a personal project of Alan Johnson's, there are an estimated 16,000 hours put into the build. Powertrain features a LS6 mated to a Bowler 4-speed overdrive transmission. A one-off stack fuel-injection air cleaner is just one of the many unique features of the "Deucenberg." The heads were re-flowed and it also has one-off valve covers, a one-piece engine and oil pan, additional sheet metal includes a one-off skin for the engine and transmission. The Mothers Shine Award was founded in 2001 by Mothers Polishes-Waxes-Cleaners, and has become the most prestigious honor bestowed at the premier event of the automotive aftermarket industry known as the SEMA Show. The 2009 Shine Award presentation took place at 4:00 p.m. on November 4th in the Mothers Tech Center, Booth #22369, adjacent to the Mothers Polish SEMA Booth #22463, in Central Hall. The Shine Award trophy was designed by Hot Rod Hall of Fame inductee and car designer Chip Foose, and forged in bronze by renowned automotive sculptor Steve Posson.
All vehicles exhibited in booths at the beginning of the 2009 SEMA Show, November 3-6, were automatically judged. For vehicles displayed in open spaces, entry details were available at the Mothers(r) Big Rig in the outside display area adjacent to Central and North halls, from Sunday morning through Tuesday morning of the SEMA Show.
