1931 Ford Roadster
David Price built and drag raced this '31 Ford roadster from 1965-70. Running high 10s on a B Street roadster record of 10.45, power came from a Z/28 302 small-block Chevy outfitted with an Isky cam, Vertex magneto, and Hilborn injection. We're digging the full-size steering wheel, the crazy headers, and that tall rollbar, which unusually for the time was actually tall enough to clear the driver's helmet.
Also pictured with David's roadster is Vance Hunt and his AA/Fuel dragster. According to David, "Vance was always in the NHRA Top 10 in the '60s. We both worked at the GM plant in Arlington, Texas." He also told us that he finally had to sell the car when his wife convinced him that a young father with two sons shouldn't be racing, though admits it was a sad day, and that he's been looking for the car ever since he sold it to a car dealer in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1970. He's still involved in hot rodding though, even if he's no longer racing, as his current ride is a '32 highboy roadster.
Deciding the next best thing to finding his old race car is to build a clone, that's exactly what his next project will be, using swap meet parts, which, he says, "should be fun." You bet it will be! We can't wait to see it done.
