Cadillac never produced a coupe model for this body style ... the closest version is perhaps its convertible or four-door sedan. I wasn't even aware of this when I was first thinking about the idea of customizing a 1946 Cadillac coupe custom. I found out soon, however, when trying to find a picture of one-so now I had an even better reason to design one. Since this is a concept, I wanted to show a clear side profile and studio-photography feel with the rendering. It may also give you a feeling of a "black winter day".
The coupe's roof has been chopped about 4 inches (measured from the original windshield height)-if we could consider it chopping when the whole roof is custom-made in the first place. Note also thicker A-pillars. The side windows are styled in the spirit of the Nick Matranga '40 Merc. Nice treatment indeed, which is suitable to many makes and models. The rear quarter-window is a little bit shorter than the original, while the whole roof is several inches shorter when comparing it to a convertible.
The front end is original except for frenched headlights and a shaved hood. I wanted to save side trim, so only chromed rocker covers, Cadillac texts, and door handles have been shaved. Taillights have been removed and replaced in the bumper guards. The trunk lid is shaved as well and the license plate has been relocated in the bumper. All fenders have been molded to the body.
The wheels are 15 inchers wrapped with Goodyear Super Cushion wide whitewall tires (at least 7.10-15s) and Sombrero hubcaps (this time on a car they really belong on). Proper tail dragger stance is must for this type of car.
