Thanks to the efforts of Delegate Gary Howell, West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin issued a proclamation designating July 13, 2012 as "Collector Car Appreciation Day" in the state. West Virginia joins New Mexico and Hawaii as states that have officially recognized the celebration. Earlier this year, the U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 452 at the SEMA Action Network's (SAN) request to acknowledge the day's significance in raising awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. The date marks the third commemoration in what has become an annual event.
Delegate Howell is both a SEMA member and member of the SAN-supported State Automotive Enthusiast Leadership Caucus. He is the owner and operator of Howell Automotive, which provides retail sales of performance parts and accessories for domestic and imported vehicles, specializing in Chrysler products.
In the previous two years, thousands of Americans have gathered at car cruises, parades and other events to celebrate our nation's automotive heritage. By taking part in these events around the country, these automotive enthusiasts and related businesses ensured that their passion was honored and recognized.
