Kent built Ivo’s twin-Buick chassis that powered the 88-inch wheelbase chassis (a VW Bug is 94.5), which was the first chassis that came out of Kent’s new shop. Ivo and Kent were the first to surpass the 180-mph milestone in the quarter-mile on gas (minus blowers) as well as the first gas dragster to break the 8-second barrier when NHRA had the fuel ban in effect. Would you believe a ’48 Ford rearend managed the 928ci/900-horse motors? “Kent built the single engine out of his house. The twin-engine car was ripping the asphalt off the ground just as Kent opened the door at Nancy’s place. Then he had more business than he knew what to do with,” Ivo notes.
