With the resurgence in popularity of the Chevrolet "W" engines, PerTronix announced their new plug-and-play billet distributor for these applications, including the 348, 409, and Z11 427, which is designed to provide maximum ignition performance and easy installation. This distributor allows you to upgrade your outdated points or worn-out aftermarket components with a performance-proven distributor that features the patented Ignitor II electronic ignition module and a CNC-machined 6061-T6 polished billet housing, and features a simple two-wire hook-up with no external components required.
The Flame-Thrower distributors are available with or without vacuum advance, while the PerTronix electronics are compatible with any inductive ignition system coil, but high-rpm performance can be improved when used with their low-resistant (0.6 ohm) Flame-Thrower II coil. The PerTronix distributor is also compatible with multi-spark CD ignition boxes. For more information contact PerTronix at(909) 599-5955 or www.pertronix.com.

It is a must-have for any traditional Flathead engine builder. This step-by-step guide also provides an excellent overview of eight-cylinder Ford and aftermarket Flathead ignition systems.

If low is good, lower must be better, right? That's the motivation Speedway Motors used to develop its all-new, extra-low Model A frame. Speedway calls it the Model A Rat Rod Frame, but you can rest assured that it's no cobbled-together mix of worn-out parts. It's a professionally engineered and expertly constructed frame that makes a perfect foundation for a retro-style rod. The fabricated framerails feature sweeping front kickups to provide an extra-low stance, while a '32 Ford front crossmember, lightened shock mounts, and a Vega steering box mount make it simple to install front suspension. Triangulated ladder bars position the rear axle above the framerails to keep the back end equally low. The tubular rear crossmember accepts a '40 Ford leaf spring, which can be mounted in one of three different positions to fine-tune your ride height.
The small-block Chevy engine and TH350 transmission mounts position the engine oil pan even with the bottom of the frame. With 24-inch-tall front and 30-inch-tall rear tires, this chassis provides 4 1/2 inches of ground clearance. A hanging-style brake pedal is recommended due to the frame's extra-low ride height. By popular demand the famous Mooneyes half-sweep tachometer is available again in a "no logo" version. These tachometers were last offered in 2002, but repeated requests have resulted in their return. Identical to Mooneyes' best-selling MPG5000TM tach, except without the logo, the tach is built into a chrome cup with all the necessary hardware and brackets to mount it to your column or dash.
With an 8,000-rpm limit, and adjustable "redline" needle, a simple four-wire hookup makes the MPG5000T easy to install. For more information contact Mooneyes at (800) 547-5422 or www.mooneyesusa.com.

Building on its years of experience manufacturing custom coil springs for shoebox Fords and Mercs, Jamco Suspension has now developed a lowered coil and shock kit for the '63-73 Buick Riviera. As with the Fords and Mercs, each set of coils is custom wound to the specifications of each vehicle. For each application, Jamco takes the body style and engine weight into account and then increases the spring rate by 30 percent over the original. This increase gives improved handling and a more responsive ride while lowering the car at the same time. All springs are available in a 1-, 2-, or 3-inch drop. For more information, contact Jamco Suspension at(951) 549-1441 or www.jamcosuspension.com.
Tie Me Down
While we here at R&C are not fans of trailered cars, there are times, especially during a project build, that most cars will see a trailer at least once. We've all seen poorly secured cars on trailers, but why risk damaging or even losing your vehicle by using old or poorly made tie-down equipment? Mac's Custom Tie-Downs has a great solution: the Ultra Pack, which includes everything needed to safely secure a vehicle during transport.
The Ultra Pack includes four 6- or 8-foot ratchet straps (or a combination of both), four axle straps, four strap wraps, and a free duffle bag to stow the gear when not in use. Straps are available in red, blue, black, or yellow. The hardware on a Mac's axle strap is shaped to allow for tight clearance applications, while each strap has more than twice the number of stitches than most competitors' straps. The Ultra Pack is rated with a 10,000-pound capacity. For more information, contact Mac's Custom Tie-Downs at (866) 386-5992 or www.macstiedowns.com.

Steer You Right
One of the great aspects of the hot rod aftermarket is the ease with which previously complicated jobs can now be accomplished. For instance, if you remember compromising on positioning engines, exhaust systems, or steering columns and boxes, or even all three, when there was no alternative to solid, straight columns attached to their respective boxes, you'll know what we mean! Nowadays we can clear such obstacles with ease, thanks to universal joints and splined or Double-D shafts.
Borgeson manufactures 14 different spline sizes, seven Double-Ds, and seven smooth bores all available in single joints, double joints, and vibration-reducing universal joints, and all of them available in steel, stainless steel, polished stainless steel, and aluminum. In fact Borgeson is proud to say that they can assemble 6,237 variations of their sealed needle bearing steering universal joints to be shipped the same day they are ordered. For more information, contact Borgeson at (860) 482-8283 or www.borgeson.com.
Miller Electric has introduced a customizable workstation designed specifically for welding and metalworking. Known as the ArcStation, this purpose-built workbench is affordable, fully customizable, and perfect for industrial pros and home hobbyists alike. The X-Pattern and clamps allow parts to be clamped to the middle of the bench-no more tacking them to the table!
