The crank is still good no scoring or anything, the bearing did have a little on it though. Heres my next question whats your opinion on replacing the rods and pistons only instead of doing a full overhaul on it?

I have a 37 Ford custom that my father built in the early 50's. I'd like to update the brakes to make it a safer ride. I don't want to buy a package of parts and throw money at it. I'd like to pull parts at a salvage yard and work on the car in the same manner as it was built. Is there a reference (book, magazine article, etc) that lists interchangeable parts that would help me accomplish this? There's much more to do than just brakes as it hasn't run in more than 45 years. Thanks David

Anybody done this? Looks like the pivot rod for the clutch pedal would go through the existing bracket that houses the brake pedal. I have access to a machine shop. How much work is it going to be to get clutch linkage in?

I bought a kit to set my doors up with shaved handles. The pull on the solenoids is 30lbs. This doesn't seem strong enough to work on a regular basis. Has anyone done a '68-'72 F series pickup that may have some insight?

I just sent an e-mail to Rob Fortier (Rappin`) about this,but thought I should post it here also to make sure it is seen. The article by Jim Rizzo in the January 2012 issue titled "Fresh Horses" made me laugh,then made me cringe when I realized he missed another big issue with the swap. He needs to pull that distributor back out asap. You see,the new motor uses a hydraulic roller camshaft that requires the use of a steel distributor gear. If you use the old cast-iron gear with the roller cam they will eat eachother up and just cause more problems. You can also use a bronze gear,but those tend to wear out rather quick. ~Jim Viita Burbank,IL

Got a chuckle out of the article on building the custom rear bumper using the 50 Olds grill. Something about not fitting the bumper to the car using typical bumper brackets and the car's sheet metal being damaged first if the vehicle is struck from behind. remember what happen to bud bryan's car after his mentioning that he had welded the rear quarters to the floor and would let the next owner figure out how to make repairs if the car was hit? And that car WAS rear ended while being driven on the street. Bud sold the car and the next owner... It's a curse! Interesting arctile though. Woluld like to see a 'finished" photo as the last photo in the article didn't look like the mock up using duct tape.

hi to all of you from saudi arabia. i am trying to get back into my old hobby after a 25 year break... my last project was a '64 ford fairlane when i was a college student back in austin, texas in 1986... i am now living and working in saudi arabia. choice of project cars are very limited here. someone recently offered me a 1967 Buick Riviera. I like what it looks like on paper, but have not seen it yet. Does anyone have any experience with this car? Any suggestions/comments/advice, pros/cons? Any problems with parts availability? Hi just joined the forum after searching the net about Hot Rod and custom magazine. I found in my loft a load of early magazines( forgot they were there ) inc HR&C from issue 1 and wanted to know if anyone is interested in buying them? There are also Street Machine ones, Custom car ones (earliest from 77 up to 83 ) and some for classic cars. I'd rather not sell individual ones, too much hassle, and hope they would be of some use. They were in a plastic box and are in very good condition considering how old they are! If you are not interested but can point me to a place to take them I'd appreciate the advice. Too good to chuck away, I'd say. Cheers

well.. not all electric fuel pumps are designed for suction lift .. most are designed for in tank or gravity feed... does your tank look anything like this??? http://www.tanksinc.com/cartimages/prd_zm_42.jpg some poly tanks like above have a fuel level sending unit that is separate from the fuel pickup.. the above tank uses pumps like this... http://www.tanksinc.com/cartimages/prd_sm_84.jpg there are small diameter in tank pumps that put out under 5 psi like this airtex e3903 pump http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/ar1/E3903/image/4/ but you still need to figure out how to mount the pump to the pickup tube.. and have this on the end of the pump and close to the bottom of the tank ... http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/ar1/FS30/image/4/ without a strainer.. and there are like 80 different designs... your electric pump will have a short life...

I am a professional auto technician (dealership meachanic) and have 15+ years of experience, also a former Marine (Semper Fi!!) I am the proud owner of a 1949 Pontiac coupe so let me clarify It is what I like to call a business coupe deluxe (it has a rear seat) body # 2527D" or club coupe or sedan coupe (depending on which advertising jargon you read *I like to call it a biz coupe deluxe! anyhow, I have separated the body from the frame and that frame has been media blasted and a Fatman fab mark111 with coil overs installed, the X brace has been modified (widened and plated to accept a 3" driveshaft and up to 3" exaust running parallel, the rear of the frame just forward of the kick up" has been cut and moved in an additional 2" and back out to the stock location to accept a stock fuel tank, the rear suspension will be a triangulated 4 bar set up with coil overs and the narrowing of the rear frame will allow me to stuff the new mickey T's 295/55 r15 or equivelent tires, the fronts will be 215/75r 15's and shod in steel gennie wheels the power plant is a 1966 pontiac 389 bored 0.40 over and a forged crank with 4.21 stroke (just like a 455 several companies offer this stroke to fit in the 3.00 mains yeah :grin: )for a combined total of 446 cubes!! and the new edelbrock D port heads cam shaft will be a comp cams XR276HR and I will be using the ram air restorations super long branch manifolds with the 3.00 collector size, the paint will be 1960's starlight black (pontiac) or tuxedo black (chevrolet) same black just different name lol :smirk: I will be keeping the vehicle in stock roof height (im a dropper not a chopper) as the greenhouse on the coupes is smaller than the sedans and streamliner bodies. mild mods to the hood and decklid no crazy one off stuff (imo it would kill what harley earl made perfect already) I might be rambling but just wanted to say hello and will post pix asap. I belong to the high performance pontiac forum and the fella's there are a great bunch of grounded guys and hope to find that saem type of courtesy here!!! thanks! :cool:

Hi Guys I have a 66 Impala SS Convertible. I want to convert the existing Instrument Panel Lamps to LEDs. They are difficult to read at night with the existing bulbs. Recently painted my 51 pickup with Summit's Hot Rod Black. It's pretty much a semi-gloss. Recently saw some photos in the magazines with "Polished Suede Paint" descriptions. I always thought that Suede could not be polished. I'd liked to try polishing a few areas on my truck to even out the semi-gloss. Does anyone know how to go about polishing Suede without taking it to a full gloss and how to maintain an even finish. Thanks

The frame on my '32 roadster was damaged in an accident. One frame shop has already tried to straighten it without success. My question is, do I try to get it straightened again or is it better (meaning safer) not to try to fix it, and instead go get a new frame? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
