Instead of butting the front and rear plates together, Chad left a 1/16-inch gap, which will provide a space for the weld to penetrate into and where it won't get ground off. Also, look closely at the point where the plate meets the upper portion of the 'rail (arrow). The plate wasn't pressed flush into the frame, but meets it corner to corner.
