The powerGEn to fit Flathead Ford V-8s is a 75A unit, providing 60A at idle, and with one-wire operation. With a heavy-duty regulator, it's slightly larger than a stock generator, but looks the part and keeps traditional rods looking, well, traditional.

This isn't the sort of condition you should let your battery fall into. The scum on top could cause a power drain, as current can seep through it from one terminal to the other.

Although not in constant use, an air compressor and associated controls will nonetheless contribute to current draw. Air Ride Technologies told us, depending on the compressor used, it'll draw 20-30 amps, while the control systems will add another 5 amps maximum.

Something you may not even consider if you're running an injected motor is that the injectors have a current draw. High-impedance OEm-style injectors will only draw around 2 amps, but a high-performance system such as this xFI Gm injection system by FAST will draw around 7 1/2 amps for the injectors, plus just less than an amp for the xFI unit itself.

This 16-inch electric fan from AFCO (800-632-2320) will draw 18 amps and should be considered as a permanent draw on the charging system, unlike, say, power door locks or an electric antenna.

Again, you probably won't even consider your tranny when calculating your total current draw, but if you have an electronically operated trans such as a 4L60E, you should know it will draw slightly less than one amp, according to the guys at Gearstar-a small consideration, perhaps, but one that should be added to the tally, as it's in constant operation.

Things like an electric fuel pump might slip your mind when adding up your accessories, but they're running all the time and taking juice.
