The “basic” weld types we’ll be addressing are butt and fillet. A butt weld is a joint between two separate pieces of material with no overlap, which is preferred versus a step or lap joint, especially on exterior body panels, as it leaves no excess material that may welcome gathering of moisture, such as patches, which will eventually lead to rust.
