The uprights were made from 12x12-inch 3/16 mild steel plate, sourced from IMS. After drilling the mounting holes, and trimming them diagonally (as shown) so they measured 8 inches across the top, they were clamped square and level against the crosspiece at one end of each dolly and tack-welded in place.
