Installing A Lokar Underdash E-Brake

This C-clip locates the outer cable housing inside the bracket.

An unused threaded hole in the casing of our TH350 meant we could install this clamp to keep the cable away from the shifter arm.

The cable can be routed any number of ways, but at some point it has to exit the interior of the car. We opted to route it straight down and through the top of the trans tunnel, not forgetting to use a rubber grommet.

These cables will attach to the e-brake mechanisms inside each rear brake drum. Hardware is included to connect these to the single cable leading to the e-brake inside the car.

Though the original e-brake cables were still in place, they’d been zip-tied to a crossmember under the bed ever since the pickup was first put together.

This pronged clip is the stock GM method of locking the outer cable sleeve into the brake backing plate. With each prong depressed it’ll pop right out …

… and the Lokar outer sleeve can be installed in its place.

This Ny-loc nut keeps everything secured better than the original pronged clip.

Unlike a 9-inch Ford axle, the brake shoes have to be released from the backing plates to attach the cables to the e-brake mechanisms. Looks like the axle-saver bearings I installed last year aren’t working any longer, as axle oil is making its way into the drums.
