Shiftin' Time

OTB has released a series of shift knobs that harken back to the designs and colors used in the '30s, '40s, and '50s. More details are available on the company's website, but they range in diameter from 2 to 2 1/2 inches, and in a variety of finishes from tan and butterscotch to pewter and ivory, depending on the design. Handcrafted in durable resin, the base and antiquing coats are sealed with the customer's choice of satin or gloss topcoat.

Each knob is drilled and tapped for a 16mm thread, though brass insert adapters are also available to convert to popular standard thread sizes. For more information, contact OTB Gear at (909) 595-4995 or www.otbgear.com.

'57 Varieties. OK, Just 3 ...

Classic Thunder Road has announced a new series of instrument panels for the '57 Chevrolet. Available in three finishes, matte black, brushed aluminum, or carbon fiber, these panels are manufactured from high-quality ABS composite. Offered with or without gauges and wiring harness, the main dash panel is constructed as a two-piece assembly that forms a shroud around the steering column. This panel accepts a speedometer, tachometer, water temperature, and oil pressure gauges. In addition, a small two-gauge cluster is included, which is mounted on the dash to the right of the main cluster. Styled after '57 Chevrolet headlight bezels, this two-gauge pod houses a fuel gauge and a voltmeter.

Classic Thunder Road offers the panels with Auto Meter gauges or their own High Velocity or Concours gauges. The Concours range is a low-cost line while the High Velocity is a programmable series that offers several interesting features, including peak recall on the tach. For more information, contact Classic Thunder Road at (866) 882-3525 or www.classicthunderroad.com.

Stealthy Livin'

Hot on the heels of Pace Performance's ZZ383 engines with eight-stack EFI comes this 350ci HD truck engine with Holley Avenger EFI. This engine and EFI combination is an excellent choice for around-town cruising with 315 hp at 4,600 rpm, and 385 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. Pace used GM's '96-00 HD 1-ton truck replacement engine and topped it off with an Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap intake and Holley's self-tuning Avenger TBI fuel-injection system with fuel pump. To give this engine a stealthy sleeper look they added a set of OE black stamped steel valve covers and a dual snorkel air cleaner.

These engines are shipped fully assembled and dyno tested, and include HEI distributor, plug wires, looms and plugs, 14-inch auto trans flexplate, new HD starter with bolts, 8-inch harmonic balancer, front timing cover, oil filter and adapter, passenger side dipstick, and GM limited one-year warranty. For more information, visit Pace Performance at www.paceperformance.com.

Stop It

Owners of all Oldsmobile models from 1940-52 can now enjoy the improved stopping power, durability, safety, confidence, and the driving comfort that comes from a Wilwood-engineered disc brake system made specifically for their vehicle, without altering the outward appearance when using OE- or classic-styled wheels. These fully bolt-on kits require no modifications to spindles, are fully compatible with OE master cylinder output, and can be used as such when a modern tandem outlet cylinder is not used.

Classic Series conversion kits use forged billet Dynalite calipers to provide big brake stopping power, durability, and a long service life, thanks to four stainless steel pistons per caliper and an internal "seal-in-bore" design. This keeps fluid and pressure in while keeping dirt and debris out, eliminating external piston boot seals. The 11 3/4-inch diameter rotors provide added leverage for maximized stopping power, and mount to the OE spindles using billet hubs with tapered roller bearings and modern grease seals. The hubs include 1/2-20 fine thread high-strength steel grade 8 studs and are double drilled for either 5-on-4.75- or 5-on-5-inch lug pattern wheels. Wilwood's exclusive Smart Pads use a unique composite metallic compound that operates at a reduced noise and dust rates similar to ceramic-style materials, but with the higher friction and fade resistance usually associated with high-metallic harder compounds. Each kit also includes the necessary brackets, hardware, alignment shims, and premium-grade fasteners. Replacement of the original rubber brake hoses with stainless braided flexline, available separately, is also required. For more information, contact Wilwood Engineering at (805) 388-1188 or www.wilwood.com.

Black and chrome

Stromberg Carburetor is highlighting a new personalized service for its popular 97 carburetor with a limited-edition black lacquered model, highlighted with hand-polished stainless steel linkages and chromed brass parts. It follows the regular 97, the chrome model, the "Barn Find" with its factory patina, and the cable choke and Lincoln Zephyr-style "push throttle" options. But rather than a new carburetor choice, the Black and Chrome model is more the start of a new bespoke service, offering unique finishes to special order.

Stromberg Carburetor owner, Clive Prew, says, "Black and Chrome is about signaling the availability of optional colors and other finishes. We can do pretty much anything to special order and we're encouraging customers to make suggestions." The new Black and Chrome Genuine Stromberg 97 (PN 9510A-BLK) is available to special order from any Stromberg dealer. For more information, visit Stromberg at www.stromberg-97.com.

Fender Fixes

We could have used these '41-48 Ford repair panels when we tackled the bodywork on the '46 roadster pickup last year! It replaces the rear lower corner of the front fender, from the wheel arch to the A-pillar. An awkward section to repair, we're sure this new panel from EMS will prove popular.

Die-stamped from 18-gauge steel, they're an accurate reproduction of the original shape, though they won't fit the same-year Mercury. For more information, contact EMS at (216) 541-4585 or www.emsautomotive.com (be sure to state whether you require a left or right panel).
