For the right look on a channeled fat-fender, the fenders need to be left in the stock relationship with the frame—or raised on the body, depending on how you look at it. Lowering this body complicates things up at the firewall. On this ’40, a 5-inch strip—equal in height to the depth of the channel—was cut from the firewall.
