It was an exciting time for Americans when one of our own, Dan Gurney of All American Racers in his Formula 1 Eagle, would compete on the international Grand Prix circuits. The men who made it happen were designer Len Terry, Bill Fowler, Carroll Shelby, and Dan Gurney. Gurney became the first American in the 100-year history of Grand Prix racing to win a championship event in a Formula 1 car of his own construction in the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps. That distinction still stands.
